Subject: Get on your hands and knees and crawl underneath? Forget it! On a recent trip to Chile and El Saltamontes Lodge, we fished for brown trout on several meadow streams that required a bit of cattle-fence climbing. Our guide, Sebastian Salas, showed us a quick and efficient way of negotiating these—approaching a sturdy post, he would grab hold and catapult himself right over the top while holding his fly rod in his mouth. Easy if you’re 25 and in guide-shape. I usually opted to crawl under, but it was a beautiful thing to watch Sebastian leap those fences, and I was able to capture the master tackling this one. The key to getting this shot was freezing the fast motion, so I set the speed at 1/2000 of a second and came up with this.
