Sage Announces New "ONE" Fly Rod

While most manufacturers tend to wait for the yearly trade show to unveil their new offerings, Sage took the covers off a little early this year with the new fast-action, ultralight "ONE" series of rods.

Sporting black blanks, silver hardware and a classic walnut insert, the rods are both low profile and elegant in appearance. It will be available in 3 through 10 weight, and will be priced from $715 to $740.   Meanwhile, even Sage's competitors have quietly acknowledged that this rod will be hard to beat this year (and indeed the ONE has already won best-of-show accolades from European trade groups).

Sage's chief rod designer (and one of the world's best casters), Jerry Siem, likens the action to an extension of one's arm, saying, "It offers a more fluid transmission of energy from the arm to the fly. The eye sees the cast it wants to make and is translated to the hand through the rod instantaneously.”  In other words, expect smoothness, lightness, and an update to Sage's popular fast action tapers, like the venerable XP series and the immediate predecessor, the Z-Axis series, from which the ONE rods are descended.
